Don Jefferis – Partner

Professional Experience
Don is a Partner in Opportune’s Energy Consulting Practice. Don has over 20 years of business experience, including 12 years as a senior manager and co-founder of Arthur Andersen LLP’s Energy Risk Management Practice, three years as chief information officer and interim head of quantitative research at Mirant Corporation, and seven years in a variety of senior management positions in software and consulting firms serving in the energy, investment banking and alternative investment management/hedge fund industries.

Prior to joining Opportune, Don was a Managing Director and founder of another consulting firm’s Metro NYC office, providing energy trading and risk management consultancy services. Don has hands-on experience with the entire energy trading process, with deep expertise around both risk control and systems.

Representative Experience

  • Led planning and execution success of multiple ETRM (Solarc, OpenLink, TriplePoint) implementation and enhancement projects. Proven ability to navigate between business strategy and direction, operational needs and requirements, and IT ability to deliver solutions for successful infrastructure development.
  • Led the forensic analysis and evaluation of a $300+ million energy market system program that was severely challenged. Identified significant deficiencies and recommendations for improvement in program governance, executive and business alignment, and project management.
  • Led a large business process and technology merger integration team for a major investment bank that made one of the largest power trading portfolio acquisitions ever in 2007.
  • Led the software selection of many ETRM systems, and several power and gas logistics systems. Served as a principle business architect on several ETRM systems, in particular in the risk analysis and control and trading controls areas.
