Analysis: Natural Gas Issues To Watch in 2019

Ryan Dusek, Director with Opportune's Commodity Risk Advisory Group, offered insight into what he expects to unfold in the LNG exports market in 2019 and beyond.

"Although not currently an issue [of concern], I will be focused on LNG exports in 2019. China and other Asian economies currently have an insatiable appetite for LNG. Slower global growth, potential tariffs and a possible trade war could negatively impact their demand for natural gas. US natural gas production is estimated to have increased by 8.5 Bcf/d in 2018 and shows no signs of slowing in 2019. LNG exports are expected to absorb about 5.2 Bcf/d of this. If production continues to grow at this clip and exports slow, I would expect supply to seriously outpace demand and lead to a much weaker pricing environment for natural gas."
