Professional Experience
Graham is a Director at Opportune LLP, in the firm’s Sustainability advisory practice, where he supports clients in the transportation sector. He joined Opportune in 2026 following the firm’s acquisition of Pickering Energy Partners (PEP) Consulting & Advocacy, where he spearheaded their industrials-sector practice. Graham’s work focuses on helping transportation and energy companies navigate the transition to a lower-carbon future, specializing in the technical and economic feasibility of emerging transportation technologies.
Before joining Opportune, Graham spent over a decade at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), most recently serving as Manager of the Low Carbon Technologies Group within the Powertrain Engineering Division. At SwRI, he led multidisciplinary teams in the research and development of internal combustion engines, hydrogen fuel-cell technology, carbon-capture programs, and advanced low carbon fuels. His technical expertise in evaluating the environmental impact of various powertrains has made him a leading voice in the discussion of "eclectic" energy futures.
A recognized global thought leader, Graham is widely known for his TEDx talk, The Contradictions of Battery-Operated Vehicles, which has garnered millions of views and sparked critical debate on the life-cycle emissions of transportation. He has authored numerous technical papers and articles on decarbonization and is a frequent keynote speaker at major global industry conferences, including SAE NAIPC, JSAE and ASME.
Graham earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Leeds (UK) and has spent his career bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application. He is deeply involved in shaping the future of transportation policy through data-driven advocacy studies.
