Professional Experience

Mike is the Senior Partner-in-Charge of Tax for Opportune. He has 39 years of experience helping companies of all sizes navigate complex business and tax issues. 

Before joining Opportune, Mike spent 37 years at KPMG, where he rose to become US and Global Tax Leader for the energy industry. He led the firm’s tax practice in this segment, as well as the Houston Business Unit tax practice, providing strategic direction and oversight. His emphasis was on building a talented team with diversified skills focused on integrated business solutions and client service. Mike has decades of experience in helping corporations navigate complex tax issues and business challenges serving clients in all verticals including exploration and production, refining, oilfield services, and independent power producers.

As the US and Global Tax Energy Industry Leader for Oil and Gas with KPMG, Mike directed the firm's tax services for the energy industry. He was a founding member and regular speaker at KPMG's Annual Global Energy Conference from its inception in 2002 through 2019. 

Mike consistently provided comprehensive tax services to clients with a focus on the energy industry including exploration and production, refining, marketing, field service, and independent power producers. He conducted engagements focused on tax minimization planning, post-merger integration, accounting, method reviews, ASC 740-related issues, and tax compliance co-sourcing. 

Mr. Terracina was also responsible for growth strategy, operating results, and partner and personnel matters as he held the role of Houston Business Unit Partner-in-Charge of Tax at KPMG in 2011. 

Mike earned an MBA and B.S. in Accounting from Louisiana Tech University where now serves on the Accounting Advisory Board. In addition, Mr. Terracina is a Board Member and the Finance Committee Co-Chair of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston, and is an Executive Board Member and Audit Committee Chair for the Alley Theatre in Houston.
