Professional Experience

Raza is Vice President of the firm’s Outsourcing practice based in Houston. Raza has over 20 years of experience in operational accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls for the upstream and midstream oil and gas sectors. Raza oversees all accounting and administration aspects of Opportune’s outsourcing services, managing, and directing the operational accounting and financial reporting responsibilities of Opportune’s clients, with a focus on quality and efficiency of transactional processes and reporting, as well as managing client relationships. He leads teams responsible for quarterly and annual SEC financial reporting and SOX implementation and compliance.

Before joining Opportune, Raza was a Senior Manager in Ernst & Young’s Assurance and Advisory practice where he served both public and privately held companies primarily in the oil and gas industry. For 20 years, Raza worked at various offices of EY, including Houston, San Jose, London, Johannesburg, Dubai, Qatar, and Karachi. Raza holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce and Accounting and a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Karachi, Pakistan. He is a CPA licensed in the State of Texas and is also a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.

Representative Projects

  • Led the financial data review and diligence, financial statements preparation, and Big 4 firm audit
    preparedness effort on a $500 million deal for a water business providing water for drilling
    purposes to various oil and gas customers operating in West Texas and New Mexico.
  • Assisted several companies with best practices review, process and controls documentation, and
    gap analysis recommendations as part of IPO readiness initiatives.
  • Helped clients develop solutions to complex accounting matters.
  • Worked with clients to develop new accounting standard implementation and disclosures.
  • Lead the firm’s annual SOC 1 compliance initiative ensuring internal processes, procedures and
    controls are effective and efficient, and in line with best practices and industry standards.
  • Before joining Opportune, Raza was a member of EY’s SW Region Quality Network supporting
    its national and regional quality initiatives. He worked with audit teams on internal and external
    (PCAOB, KPMG peer-review) inspection support, financial statement pre-issuance reviews,
    providing specific coaching and training to certain engagement teams in a structured setting.
