Professional Experience

Carl is a Partner at Opportune and serves as the firm’s Transactional Advisory and Upstream sector leader. Carl has more than 25 years of business experience, including eight years as a partner with the national law firm Winstead and eight years as a senior executive in the energy industry. Before Opportune, Carl was the Senior Vice President of Legend Natural Gas serving in several roles, including General Counsel, VP of Land, and Chief Administrative Officer. In these roles, Carl oversaw legal, land, land administration, IT, acquisitions/divestitures, risk management, human resources, and EHS. Carl also served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Marlin Midstream (FISH), a publicly-traded MLP headquartered in Houston, Texas, with various operations throughout the U.S.

Representative Projects

  • Advise private and public companies and investors on all aspects of pre-merger, acquisitions, divestitures, financings, and restructuring initiatives – including all manners of due diligence and evaluations.
  • Advise private and public companies and investors on all aspects of post-merger, acquisitions and divestitures, financings, and restructuring initiatives – including integration, G&A, technology, operations, accounting, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Lead on all aspects of M&A transitional support, including operations, accounting, financial reporting, IT, and data integration. Advised on 50+ system selections and implementations including best practice design plus financial and operational reporting.
  • Develop and implement operational and back-office policies and procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting and decision-making.
  • Lead on all aspects of system(s) selection and implementation for accounting, land, production, document management, and workflow.
  • Lead on corporate governance and industry best practice initiatives, including the evaluation of management teams.
  • Interim officer roles, including Chief Restructuring Officer (in- and out-of-court) and other fiduciary roles.
